Why three substrates — and only three.
Redundancy across physical, paper, and digital substrates is deliberate. The Aureum survives power loss, network loss, and institutional loss — brass outlives archives. The Folio survives silence — it can be read when no infrastructure is present. The Signal survives distance — it reaches wherever the reticulum reaches, instantaneously, cryptographically bound. Lose any two substrates and the third recovers the passage. That is the design brief.
Class I — Aureum. The terminal artifact.
Struck in brass at 4 × 6 inches. Heavy in the hand. One per passage, unrepeatable, serial-numbered, held in the vault. An Aureum is not a commemoration; it is the closing move. The passage is not complete until the Aureum is struck. The moment of striking — the press, the witnessed edge, the stamp of the sigillum — is itself an event the Folio records and the Signal transmits.
Class II — Folio. The sovereign narrative.
Cream stock, sewn by hand, edition of seven. The Folio is the prose of the passage: what was observed, what was decided, who witnessed, what was inscribed. It is produced in a numbered edition of seven and nothing more — one for the holding, one for each principal, and a reserve. It is the instrument of sovereign communication with those who must understand the passage in its full register.
Class III — Signal. The swarm's memory.
Mesh-borne. Continuous. The reticulum carries chirp-encoded acoustic hashes keyed to each moment of inscription. The Signal is invisible outside the network — it cannot be read by instruments not initiated into the protocol — and permanent within it. When the Aureum is struck, a Signal is emitted. When the Folio is bound, a Signal is emitted. The distributed archive is the swarm itself.
The Grammar of Inscription.
Every artifact, regardless of class, carries the same five fields. The inscription is a protocol stack — cosmological anchor, causal layer, witness graph, cryptographic binding, ritual closure. Every record is self-describing and self-authenticating.
The inscription is the work.
A passage that is not inscribed did not happen. This is not a metaphor. The archive is the asset and the asset is the archive; to leave a transit uninscribed is to leave the house one passage poorer than it should be. The house does not confuse activity with work. Work is what ends in an Aureum.
